On the left we see this 17th century Dutch portrait as it came into the Studio. It had been partially cleaned by a dealer. Much of the remaining discoloured varnish had run in long drips down the painting and the cleaning solution used had eaten into the original pigment. The same painting on the right is shown after careful removal of the remaining varnish and remedial work.

Estimates and Valuations
Written estimates for the cost of restoration\conservation are free and generally apply for three months. They are accompanied with photographs. They do not include a valuation of the painting.

The monetary value of paintings can go down, as well as up.

We sometimes recommend well know auctioneers to value large collections of paintings. For one or two paintings, for example, our fees are 1% up to the first £5,000.00 and 0.5% thereafter, whether for auction, insurance, or probate. Valuations include one or more colour photographs and can be produced on paper in a presentation file, a floppy disc, or CD.

A biographical précis of the artist’s life is not included with valuations.
